I’m Bec Spink, an experienced principal and educator based in Melbourne. My career has taken me through many different roles in schools and networks, each one shaping how I think about learning, leadership, and the purpose of schools.
A key driver in my work has always been doing things differently. For me, school is not just about preparing children for what comes next. It is about creating places where joy and curiosity are part of daily life, where community feels strong, and where learning is meaningful. I believe schools should be built around people and the relationships between them. They should be places where children feel known and capable, where staff are supported to grow together, and where families feel they belong. My why is to show that schools do not need to look or feel like they always have. They can be designed in ways that are more human, more connected, and more purposeful.

As a founding principal, I have been able to bring this vision into reality. This has involved rethinking how learning is designed, how spaces are used, and how culture holds everything together. For me, culture is the heartbeat of a school. It shapes the way people connect, how they collaborate, and how they respond to challenges. Strong cultures grow from the small things done consistently. These include the routines that make children feel safe and ready, the shared practices that give staff a sense of direction, and the ways families are invited into the story of school. When these elements are intentional, they create communities where people want to learn, work, and belong.
Alongside my leadership in schools, I have contributed more broadly to the profession. I co-founded Code the Future, served on the board of Digital Learning and Teaching Victoria, and continue to be involved in networks and collaborative projects that connect educators, industry, and community. Over the years, I have been recognised with the Victorian Department of Education Primary Teacher of the Year Award, the Digital Learning and Teaching Victoria Leader of the Year Award, and a Victorian Principals Association Study Award. I also hold a Master of Education in Knowledge Networks and Digital Innovation, which continues to shape how I think about contemporary practice and meaningful learning.
This site is a space for me to share reflections, resources, and ideas from this journey. It is not about quick fixes, but about asking questions, exploring possibilities, and considering how schools might look when we choose to do things differently.
